The World Society of Sustainable Energy Technologies has completed the rebuilding of its website, which opened to members in September 2026. Every record held upon the membership roll was carried across to it, and each member of the Society now holds an individual account through which their membership may be viewed, corrected and maintained.
The former site made no provision for members. The particulars of a membership were held by the Society and were not visible to the member they described; corrections were made by the Secretary upon written request; and certificates were prepared and issued by hand. A member possessed no means of confirming their own standing, and the site itself could not distinguish a member of the Society from a visitor to it.
The account supplies each of these. A member may confirm whether their membership is current, together with the date of their admission and the date to which their subscription is paid. The record held of their name and title, their institution, their country and the subjects upon which they work may be amended by the member directly, at any hour and without application to the Society. The membership certificate is available to be read and to be downloaded, bearing the membership number and the date of admission, and its authenticity may be confirmed by any third party at the verification address printed upon the certificate itself. Certificates of attendance at the workshops of the Society's Special Interest Groups are issued to the same place. The correspondence a member receives, whether the quarterly digest of the Society's news, the notices of the groups they have joined or the reminders that precede a renewal, is now determined by the member rather than assumed by the Society.
The groups themselves opened with the new site and are the principal addition to what membership affords. They are described in a separate notice, Special Interest Groups open to all members, as is the move to an annual subscription, in Membership moves to an annual fee.
Because the former site held no accounts, no password was carried across, and the setting of one is the single action now required of a member. The Society asks that members do so at the sign-in page, using the address at which the Society corresponds with them, whereupon a link will be sent by return. The Society's published record, comprising its newsletters from 2009 onward, the SET conferences, the proceedings and the affiliated journals, is also now held upon the site and may be searched in one place, as set out in What is on the new site.
