Last updated: May 2026

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the services provided by the World Society of Sustainable Energy Technologies (WSSET), including our website, membership services, Special Interest Groups, events, and any related features or platforms (collectively, the “Services”). By accessing or using the Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms and to comply with all applicable laws and regulations. If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use our Services.

1. Basic Terms

You are responsible for your use of the Services, for any content you submit through the Services, and for any consequences that result from such actions. You may use the Services only if you are able to form a legally binding contract with WSSET and are not prohibited from receiving services under the laws of your jurisdiction.

If you are accepting these Terms on behalf of an organisation, institution, or other legal entity, you represent and warrant that you have the authority to do so.

WSSET reserves the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Services at any time without prior notice. We may also impose limits on usage or features without prior notice.

2. Membership

WSSET membership is open to all individuals with a professional or academic interest in energy, environment and engineering. Membership is subject to approval by WSSET and may be refused or revoked at our discretion.

By applying for membership you agree to provide accurate and complete information on the registration form. You are responsible for keeping your account details up to date.

Membership fees are payable at the point of registration. Fee structures are reviewed periodically and may be adjusted without prior notice. The latest membership fee information is published on wsset.org. WSSET does not guarantee that membership fees will remain at any particular level.

Membership fees are non-refundable except where required by applicable law.

WSSET reserves the right to suspend or terminate membership at any time where a member is found to be in breach of these Terms or where their conduct is considered detrimental to WSSET or its members.

3. Special Interest Groups

As a WSSET member you may join one or more Special Interest Groups (SIGs). SIGs are hosted on LinkedIn as private groups exclusively for WSSET members. By joining a SIG you agree to conduct yourself professionally and in accordance with the group rules published within each group.

WSSET reserves the right to remove members from a SIG at any time for conduct that is promotional, offensive, or otherwise inconsistent with the research-focused purpose of the group.

LinkedIn operates under its own Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, which govern your use of that platform. WSSET is not responsible for the operation of LinkedIn or any changes LinkedIn may make to its platform.

4. Privacy

Your use of the Services is subject to our Privacy Policy, which governs the collection, use and protection of your personal data. By using the Services you consent to the processing of your information as described in our Privacy Policy. Our Privacy Policy is available at here.

5. Passwords and Account Security

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account password and for all activities that occur under your account. WSSET cannot be held liable for any loss or damage resulting from your failure to safeguard your account credentials. You agree to notify us immediately at secretary@wsset.org if you become aware of any unauthorised use of your account.

6. The SET Conference

WSSET organises and runs the annual International Conference on Sustainable Energy Technologies (SET Conference) directly. By registering for the SET Conference you agree to any additional terms and conditions published for that event.

WSSET reserves the right to modify, postpone, or cancel the SET Conference at any time. In the event of cancellation, WSSET will make reasonable efforts to notify registered delegates and will handle refunds in accordance with the terms published for that specific event.

WSSET is not liable for any travel, accommodation, or other costs incurred by delegates in connection with the SET Conference.

7. Affiliated Journals and Publishing Discounts

WSSET maintains relationships with a number of affiliated journals and publishers. As a WSSET member you may be entitled to discounts on publication fees with these publishers. Publishing discounts are subject to the terms agreed between WSSET and each individual publisher and may change at any time.

The most current information on publishing discounts and affiliated journals is published on wsset.org. WSSET does not guarantee the availability or level of any publishing discount.

WSSET does not operate its own journal platform. Affiliated journals are hosted and managed by independent publishers who operate under their own terms and conditions and privacy policies. WSSET is not responsible for the editorial decisions, policies, or operations of any affiliated journal or publisher.

8. Content and Acceptable Use

WSSET reserves the right to remove any content and suspend or terminate any account that is found to be in breach of these terms without prior notice.

9. Intellectual Property

All rights, title and interest in and to the Services, including the WSSET name, logo, website, and related materials, are and will remain the exclusive property of WSSET and its licensors. 11. Disclaimers and Limitations of Liability

The Services are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, WSSET disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

WSSET does not warrant that the Services will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from viruses or other harmful components. WSSET is not responsible for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Services.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, WSSET shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Services, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of revenue, or loss of goodwill.

14. Changes to These Terms

WSSET may revise these Terms from time to time. The most current version will always be published at wsset.org. Where we consider a revision to be material, we will notify you using the email address associated with your account. By continuing to use the Services after any revision takes effect, you agree to be bound by the updated Terms.

15. Governing Law

These Terms and any disputes arising from them shall be governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
