What personal data we collect
When you register as a WSSET member, we collect the following information:
- Required: Title, first name, last name, gender, country/region, affiliation/organisation, email address, username.
- Optional: Any additional information you choose to provide in your profile.
- When you use wsset.org without registering, we may collect anonymised data about your use of the website, including pages viewed, browser and device type, and time and date of access. This data cannot be used to identify you personally.
How we store your data
Your data is stored securely on Hostinger servers. We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss or misuse. In the unlikely event of a data breach, we will notify affected users within 72 hours.
How we use your data
We use your personal data solely to:
- Manage your WSSET membership and account
- Assign you to your chosen Special Interest Group(s) on LinkedIn
- Send you membership communications and updates
- Issue your official WSSET membership certificate
- Process your membership payment
- Send newsletters and society updates via Mailmeteor (you may unsubscribe at any time)
We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties except where necessary to deliver our services, as outlined below.
Special Interest Groups
If you select one or more Special Interest Groups during registration, your name and LinkedIn profile URL will be used to invite you to the relevant private LinkedIn group(s). The Chair of each group and WSSET administrators will have access to your membership details for the purposes of group management.
LinkedIn operates under its own Privacy Policy, which governs your use of that platform.
Affiliated Journals and Conference Proceedings
WSSET does not operate its own journal platform. Our affiliated journals are hosted by independent publishers who operate under their own privacy policies. If you submit a paper to an affiliated journal or our SET conference proceedings, your data will be handled in accordance with that publisher’s privacy policy.
If your work is published, your name, affiliation and email address will form part of the permanent published record.
Newsletter
We use Mailmeteor to send newsletters and society updates. By becoming a WSSET member you consent to receiving these communications. You may unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link in any newsletter email or by contacting secretary@wsset.org.
Cookies
