The Society presents its awards each year at the gala dinner of the SET Conference. At SET2026, held at the Premiera Hotel in Kuala Lumpur from 13 to 15 August, it presented one of them for the first time.
The first Award of Scientific Excellence
The WSSET Award of Scientific Excellence recognises a body of work rather than a single paper: exceptional scientific achievement and a sustained record of high-impact research in sustainable energy, the environment and engineering. The recipient is chosen by the Executive Committee in consultation with the Society's Fellows.
The first recipient is Professor Jie Ji, Chair Professor in the Department of Thermal Science and Energy Engineering at the University of Science and Technology of China. His work established the theory of full-spectrum cascade utilisation of solar energy, alongside advances in photovoltaic/thermal utilisation and the integration of solar energy into buildings.
The Innovation Awards
The WSSET Innovation Awards recognise individuals and organisations for new sustainable technologies. This year's were presented in renewable energy systems, power generation, energy efficiency, low-carbon buildings and future cities, and agri-food technologies, to researchers at:
- Xi'an University of Architecture & Technology, China
- Jeonbuk National University, South Korea
- Beijing Institute of Technology, China
- University of Science and Technology of China
- CarbonFutureX Group, UK
- Tsinghua University, China
- National Sun Yat-sen University, Taiwan
- Wuhan University of Technology, China
