The World Society of Sustainable Energy Technologies (WSSET), founded by Professor Saffa Riffat, connects academia and industry to promote global sustainable energy solutions. With 3,500+ members across over 82 countries, WSSET hosts annual conferences, supports publications, and recognizes impactful innovations to advance sustainable practices worldwide.
OUR STORY
Humble Beginnings
In 2002, Professor Riffat set out to formalise a community of researchers, academics, and industry professionals dedicated to sustainable energy technologies. This vision materialised with the inaugural Sustainable Energy Technology (SET) conference held in Porto. Little did Professor Riffat know that this event would mark the beginning of a remarkable journey spanning over two decades.
Building a Community
From that first conference in Porto, WSSET set out to build a global community committed to sustainable energy. Today, with over 3000 members, WSSET has created a tapestry of like-minded individuals united by a common goal—to further the development of sustainable energy technologies.

WSSET has brought together thousands of researchers and professionals in collaborative efforts, publishing over 7000 research articles. Notable innovations include contributions to self-cleaning glass technology, the introduction of inflatable greenhouses, and pioneering farming using mine shafts.
